                <text>The Hebden Bridge Local History Society was formed in 1949 and is a section of the Hebden Bridge Literary &amp; Scientific Society which celebrated its hundredth anniversary in 2005.&#13;
&#13;
The Society organises a winter programme from September to March on Wednesdays at the Methodist Church in Hebden Bridge at 7:30 pm.&#13;
&#13;
The Society's archive and library is housed at The Birchcliffe Centre, Hebden Bridge. The collection is available for members to use on the second Wednesday and fourth Saturday of each month.&#13;
&#13;
Donations to the archive are welcomed. Contributions of photos and documents, even from the recent past. &#13;
&#13;
A catalogue of the Society's is available on their website..&#13;
&#13;
One of the many projects the Society is currently working on is the Gibson and Sutcliffe papers. The materials had been lying in a room at Croft House in Hebden Bridge, undisturbed for over 50 years. One collection belonged to Abraham Gibson of Greenwood Lee and the other to Sutcliffe &amp; Sutcliffe, architects.&#13;
&#13;
Members of the Society are also transcribing gravestones in Heptonstall churchyard, providing easy access to local information for genealogists.</text>

              <text>The sketch and description are from The Calderdale Sketch Book by J. L. Berbiers, published in 1973 by The Halifax Courier Ltd. &#13;&#13;The tower of St Andrews, the parish church of Stainland, can be seen for miles around.  Worship in the village has a distinctive history for in 1755 a small chapel-of-ease was built on the site of the present church and it is said Anglicans, Wesleyans and Independents met for worship in the building for some 60 years.&#13;In 1838 the Church of England obtained legal possession of the church and Stainland parish was formed two years later.  In 1888 the church was re-built, the only original parts now left standing being the tower and the north and south walls </text>
