Title A name given to the resource Hebden Bridge Local History Society Description An account of the resource The Hebden Bridge Local History Society was formed in 1949 and is a section of the Hebden Bridge Literary & Scientific Society which celebrated its hundredth anniversary in 2005. The Society organises a winter programme from September to March on Wednesdays at the Methodist Church in Hebden Bridge at 7:30 pm. The Society's archive and library is housed at The Birchcliffe Centre, Hebden Bridge. The collection is available for members to use on the second Wednesday and fourth Saturday of each month. Born in Hebden Bridge he attended Stubbings School and the former Central Street Middle School. A railway worker for 44 years he was called up in 1943 and was involved with hospital trains and troop movements. He was later shipped off to Burma to help restore the shattered transport system.
