Not entirely without incidents: "A few months ago a large flagstone dropped out of the platform at Mytholmroyd Station, which is high above the main road. A similar occurrence took place on Monday, when a portion of the platform several feet square of stone and macadam dropped into the road over 20ft below”. Buildings on Down side looking eastwards towards the sorting sidings beyond the signal box. The sidings and box have gone and the station has been unstaffed since 1985 and the unusual three storey Grade II listed station building is disused. Note lattice type bracket signals at far end of platform and ground signals between main tracks for access to goods yard. The crews of goods trains had a rather unorthodox method of changing over at Mytholmroyd Station. The crew going off shift would set the train going very slowly and jump off at the beginning of the platform, whilst the new crew waited to board the train at the far end of the platform. Thus the train passed through the station un-attended. This practice took place in the 1960s, but it appears to have been long established! Road overbridge (iron girders on stone abutments) between Mytholmroyd & Luddendenfoot. The long building seen behind the bridge was formally a mill, but was later occupied by Kenneth Watson, who used it as a hatchery for parent stock for Thornbers. The mill had a chimney which Watsons no longer needed so it was demolished by blasting. This had to take place on a Sunday as the railway line needed to be closed for safety reasons. It has been a registered charity since 2003 to further its aims “of disseminating information about the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway using historical information to educate and inform the community at large about this part of our national heritage.” The Society holds a large collection of photographs and drawings and other information about the L&YR in its archive for either historical research or railway modelling.
