Pismire Hill is said to have got its name from the smell of the soiled straw from the stables of the Royal Oak Hotel.

The big warehouse under construction is the Orchard Business Park. Mytholmroyd Farm is to the left of the picture. The buildings to the top left were part of Thornber Chicks. The open ground is now (2026) the community centre.
