Also working for Harry Taylor was Harry Logg, who lived at Egypt Farm and had a job of hardening off chickens before they were sold as point of lay. I was given the job of going with Harry Logg, who always referred to me as "Youth" (I was 18), to catch a field full of chickens, put them in wooden coops and take them off to Mytholmroyd. We started in shirts and half way through it began to rain. Harry was a rough, tough, no nonesense man, so we didn't stop or put a coat on and by the end I was soaked and slipping and sliding under the weight of the wet hens and coops. I became totally exhausted by the time we finished. Surely a dry off in the farm and a cup of tea would follow. Nothing. Back in the lorry and carry on as though nothing had happened. He was a tough man living in a tough environment. Whilst at Taylor's, Harry Logg was connected to the electricity grid at Egypt Farm. He came in to eat his dinner one day with some cold chops that had lines seared down the length of them. Asked why that had happened, Harry explained that he had just bought an electric fire and had put it on its back and lain the chops over the upturned bars of the fire.
