Date unknown. On the bottom right is a section of the footbridge between the two platforms and above it the small Booking Office. On the left is the entrance to the goods and coal yards.
View from the north hillside across Station Road to the coal drops and the goods yard. Date unknown but the station closed in 1962 and the goods yard in 1965. The only evidence there once was a station here is in the name 'Station Road'.
William Barker, credited as the first local manufacturer of ready-made clothing, built most of Market Street. This view, taken around 1910, shows Lello's Dining Rooms with the Post Office next door.
The building on the corner of Market Street and Old Gate, pictured here as Jackson Merchant Taylor, ended its days as 'Nicky's Cafe'. In 1910 the street was gas light. Beyond is Bridge Gate Mill.
The house in the centre of the picture is Angeldale on Hangingroyd Lane. Moss Lane winds up the hillside to the Heptonstall road. Cross Lanes Chapel is on the extreme left of the picture. Back of photo dated 1956
Mount Zion Primitive Methodist Chapel once stood proudly near the bottom of Midgley Road. Built in 1887, sadly dry rot caused the chapel to be closed in August 1960 and it was demolished in 1970 and flats now occupy the site.
